OUR PROCESS
|
|
The hardest
part of getting new kitchen or bath countertops is usually
choosing the exact color of stone (natural or engineered).
Once that decision has been made the process of measuring,
fabricating and installing the new countertops is essentially
the same for both new construction, or a remodel project.
Of course, for a remodel, any existing countertops must
be removed and the cabinet support structure examined
to ensure that the new (and usually heavier) countertop
can be supported properly. The full process is described
below for a remodel project. Please also visit our Terms
and Conditions page for additional details.

Steps in Countertop Replacement
|
 |
1)
Get a quote and schedule a template. We can provide
a quotation based on drawings and/or measurements that
you bring in, fax or email. Or we can come to your location
and measure for you. We also get as much information as
possible at this stage on sinks, backsplash, faucets,
and any other details of the project needed to quote it
properly. We provide pricing for groups A-D using average
prices, and finalize once you have chosen your stone.
If you accept our quote we schedule a template date and
time, sign the contract, collect a 50% deposit, and order
the stone. |
 |
2)
Create a template that will be used to cut the various
countertop sections into the correct shapes. The
template is made either using our digital templating system,
or with traditional thin wooden strips. Both are effective
at accurately duplicating the exact shape of your walls
and cabinet faces. For a remodel project it is usually
NOT necessary to remove the old countertops to create
the template, so you are not without a kitchen for a week!
We'll tell you if conditions exist that make it necessary
to remove the old countertops for the template. The template
process takes from 30 minutes to 2 hours depending on
the size and scope of the project, and which method is
used. |
 |
3)
Get all information needed to finalize the project for
fabrication. This includes final selection of the
stone that will be used, specifics on sinks, faucet/accessory
holes, backsplash and tile details, edge profiles, etc.
We must have all of this information before fabrication
can begin to ensure that sink cutouts and edges are correct,
and that the final installed product is exactly what you
want and expect. It is important to understand that it
is not possible to change sink cutouts, edge profiles,
faucet holes, etc. once production has begun. We also
go over seam placement at this stage if seams are required
for the project. Finally, if you have requested to inspect
the slab(s) ordered for your project, we notify you when
they have arrived on our lot. |
 |
4)
Fabricate the countertops. This is where our professionals
put everything together and cut/edge/polish the countertop
sections, cut and polish sink holes, and carry out all
the "behind the scenes" work necessary to create
a quality countertop. There are some things you cannot
see on the finished product such as "rodding"
to protect the thin sections front and back of a sink
cutout, sink mounting using stainless anchor bolts, etc.
We perform these extra steps for every project to maintain
the high level of workmanship we are known for, and to
ensure the highest quality product possible. Our hand-finished
edging and polishing creates the best edge profiles possible
for any stone. |
 |
5)
Install and cleanup. For remodel projects this
step also includes removal of the old countertops, and
the plumbing disconnect. Note that we cannot reconnect
plumbing as we are not licensed plumbers (but we can coordinate
this for you if requested). When the new tops are in
their locations any seams are set, sinks are properly
mounted and sealed, and the remaining steps in the installation
are completed. Please allow at least 12 hours before scheduling
the plumbing reconnect to allow the sink sealant to cure
properly. We collect final payment once you have inspected
the installation with our installers and approved the
entire job. So please make sure you are present at installation
to approve the work. |
